How much time do you spend researching better, quicker, faster, easier ways to get your cleaning done? Wouldn’t hiring someone to “spring clean” your house be just marvelous? The sad news is, unless I hit the lottery jackpot or magically increase my salary, I’m stuck doing it myself. And if you’re stuck doing it yourself, too, then you should keep reading.
Because I’m going to share with you my favorite tricks and shortcuts to make this year’s spring cleaning the easiest one yet.
But first, note this isn’t going to be your typical “spring cleaning” article. You see, I’m much too busy to spend a lot of time deep-cleaning my home. I mean, I struggle with the basics of keeping up with the dishes and tackling the “paper clutter monster” that always seems to spiral out of control.
You, too? Or do you have it all together? (If you do, you must share your secrets with me!)
Some women are born with the “homemaking” gene and some, like me, aren’t. How about you? Is cleaning your superpower? Don’t get me wrong, I love a clean, organized home – but I’m no “Susie Homemaker.” Now my mom, on the other hand, she’s amazing with her cooking and cleaning skills! I’m not sure how I missed out on all her homemaking talent. But I did.
To help you out, here are my best tips to get that fresh, “spring clean” feeling without spending a lot of time.
Spring cleaning hack #1
Clean your windows
I know, I know. I hate to clean windows, too! But I promise this is the quickest way to brighten your home. Clean windows let more light in (there’s no dirt or dust to block the rays of sunshine) and it makes your home look clean and fresh.
My secret weapon for clean windows is this super-fast, super-amazing window polishing cloth. Yes, it’s a little pricey but I promise it’s worth it. You get it wet with plain tap water and the cloth magically lifts the dirt, fingerprints, and grime off the glass. No streaks! I use this all the time – it cleans windows, mirrors, the tv, and other “shiny” surfaces that are hard to get clean.
Spring cleaning hack #2
Vacuum your furniture
I know this seems silly. I mean, you and I both know that no one really sees what’s lurking in your couch cushions. Plus, it won’t be long and your children (and even your husband!) will drop candy, wrappers, crayons, sand and dirt, and who knows what else down there and you’ll just have to clean it again.
For me, just knowing there is dirt and food and garbage stuck in my furniture makes the whole house feel dirty. So even though you can’t see the mess under the cushions, you know it’s there.
The best way to do clean your furniture is to use your vacuum cleaner. Most come with attachments to suck up the mess and get into the crevices. If you’re in the market for a new vacuum cleaner, I highly recommend this one – that’s the one we have. We struggle with pet hair and the carpet never really getting clean and – OMG – this vacuum is amazing. I am seriously grossed out every time I vacuum because it pulls out so much gunk from our floors!
Spring cleaning hack #3
Get rid of the clutter
Nothing takes away from a nice clean home like piles of clutter everywhere. From knickknacks, piles of receipts and bills, and your husband’s Xbox controllers laying all over the house (is that last one just me?), the clutter piles up faster than I can keep up with.
Every now and then you need to go through every room and have what I call a purge-fest!
Getting rid of all that “stuff” frees up extra space in your house that wasn’t there before. Plus, it’s a great stress-reliever because it gives you a sense of control and accomplishment. So, not only is it good for your house – it’s good for your mental health, too!
Well girls, I hope this quick and easy guide to spring cleaning helped you at least a little. I know for me, finding the time to deep clean (even if it’s just once a year!) is nearly impossible. And just doing these three simple cleaning hacks will go a long way to making your home feel fresh and clean in the coming summer months.
