I frequently get restless. This happens every couple of months or so. I feel like everything in life is off kilter in some way and I go about trying to find a better way to do things. This has turned me into a productivity and organizational mastermind. Really! It also drives my husband crazy.
Most recently I’ve been struggling at the office.
I have the best job ever – I truly do love it. I work for probate court and enjoy helping others figure out how to navigate the estate process. It’s not easy, and it is often frustrating, but I do enjoy it. Not to mention my office is calm and my coworkers are awesome.
But, as with most things, it was starting to feel like the “same old thing,” so I needed a change. Changing jobs isn’t an option. I love this job too much and even if I wanted to find a new job it isn’t an option in the rural area where I live. There isn’t much available. Which is another reason I consider myself very blessed!
I set out to figure out how to make my office space better. Turns out there are tons of ideas out there! Pinterest worked well, but there were many other articles, too.
Here are some ideas to spruce up your workspace:
- Get a desk lamp for ambient lighting
- Use a decorative mousepad
- Hang a throw blanket over an office chair to make it more “homey”
- Display coffee table books on a conference table or on your desk
- Hang a bulletin board for notes, pictures, and other inspiring items
- Plants bring life to the room
- Use a coaster on your desk
- Hang framed prints to take away some of the “institutional” feel
I have put a few of them to work in my office. Sadly, I don’t have a before photo – but here’s what it looks like now…
Notice the green plant near the window and the framed print to the right.
Here I have a throw blanket over a chair, a plant, and a candle on a warming plate.
And my bulletin board full of my daughter’s drawings and notes, and some cards, too.
Probably the biggest improvement I made is buying a printer cart to get the printer off my desktop. It’s amazing how much space this frees up!
How about you? What do you do when you feel restless?
